In Episode 2 of the Niche Site Tools Podcast, you will get all the information you need to set yourself up for success with your next niche site project.

I go into full detail on how to go from the initial brainstorming of ideas, to determining the proper keyword phrases to target and finally, determining whether or not you stand a good chance of being able to compete.

Doing the proper keyword research upfront is essential for any niche site project. If you choose a topic no one is searching for, you can have the best content available, but none of that matters if no one is interested in what you have to say. On the flip side, if you choose a topic that has a high search volume, but is too competitive, you’ll be lost in a sea of higher ranking sites.

In either scenario, you are doing yourself a huge disservice, because you could be doing all the right things and putting your heart and soul into a project, only to be hugely disappointed after months of effort. With a little keyword research and competition analysis upfront, you can set yourself up for the best chance of success down the road.

Even if you have experience with keyword research and competition analysis, I think you will benefit from checking out this episode.  I have included a few custom backlinking tips that you won’t normally hear in most posts or Podcasts on the subject.

Tools mentioned in this episode:

Market Samurai (Affiliate Link) – Check out their 12 day free trial.  If you like the product, be sure to take advantage of the 35% off discount that you will be notified of via email during the trial period.  That is exactly what I did when I purchased the software myself.  Normal price for Market Samurai is $149, but with the 35% discount, you will get Market Samurai for the one time fee of $97.  That includes lifetime free upgrades and a full 30 day money back guarantee.

Long Tail Pro (Affiliate Link) – Long Tail Pro is another great tool and it is actually a bit faster than Market Samurai, however in order to get all of the features necessary to do a full competition analysis, you will want/need to purchase the Platinum add-on, which is an additional $17/month.  Long Tail Pro standard version is $97 and also includes lifetime upgrades and a full money back guarantee.

Great 2nd episode! I was so pleased to find it in my cue tonight while driving home from a visit with family. It was the perfect timing for my drive ;) ! I need to work on plans for a new niche site but also need to get another one back on page one! Thanks for all the great advice.

Thanks Crystal!

Glad you enjoyed it on the ride home. My plan is to have episodes available by Monday morning on the weeks that I put out a new episode. I have an idea percolating for the next episode, based on what we talked about with Perrin’s new site and Cliff’s recent income revealing podcast.

I’m hoping to get started on that today, since it is a holiday for my day job, but I’m on-call this week, so will see how it goes. Have a great week and thanks for the feedback!

Hi Chris,

Another excellent episode. You dropped a few gems that got my brain churning again. I will dust off my copy of Forever Affiliate and actually follow through this time. Andrew has always been a stand-up guy; one just has to take action. Andrew really nailed it with the simplification of the backlinking process in Forever Affiliate.

I signed up to your list a while back, but didnt get a copy of your brainstorming eBook. Can you send me a copy? Thanks.

Cheers.

Fred.

Hey Fred,

Thanks for the comment and kind words, I really appreciate it!

What you said reminds me of a quote by Mark Twain that I need to look up…Oh wow, I wasn’t aware of the whole quote just the first sentence, here it is:

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and starting on the first one.”

So true and that’s why I agree that Forever Affiliate is great, because it breaks everything down into smaller, manageable tasks in step-by-step order, but it only works if we actually get started.

I believe since you were my first email subscriber, that I hadn’t setup the free eGuide yet. I will send that to you right away. Thanks by the way for being a subscriber/active participant here and definitely let me know if there are any particular topics you’d like me to cover in an upcoming post or Podcast episode!
